Tax Credit Effect on Market Activity

Here’s an interesting graph that shows how the tax credit has skewed the market activity this year. The graph compares the number of showings at Stark Company Realtors in 2009 vs. 2010. The line for 2009 matches what we’d typically expect. However, the line for 2010 shows how buyers rushed out earlier to take advantage of the Federal Homebuyer Tax Credit.

As you can see, there was a dearth of buyers looking at properties in June of this year, but now it’s bouncing back close to normal. It will be interesting to watch how the year progresses. I’ll post on this topic again in a few months.
